ABOUT THE TOUR

THE PLAN

​

​Our Glacier Walk Journey begins inside the modified Land Rover Defender 4x4 vehicle heading towards the Fláajökull glacial outlet.  Once we arrive close to the glacier, we will disembark and continue our journey on foot. The hike will last about 40 minutes through the recently shaped glacier valley, a glacier lake and finally arrive to Fláajökull glacier outlet. Before we embark and take our first steps on the glacier, our glacier guides will conduct a safety briefing as well as equipping everyone with Crampons, Harness, Helmets and Mountaineering Ice Axes, from here we take our first steps on the glacier. During the journey our guide will share local knowledge of the area, the glacier and surrounding landscapes as well as guiding you through beautiful glacial terrain, perhaps even stopping to drink the purest water which can be found in Iceland. Once we get to the most dramatic area of the glacier and if you feel like, your guide will set up a climbing station and give you a crash course on Ice climbing. This is a private tour, so if you have special requests, don't hesitate to ask!

​The Glacier adventure tour is perfect for those who wish to get close and personal to these mystical formations, and since this tour is private it suits all experience levels. There is no rush, there is no group. It's you,  the glacier and your guide. Perfect for photography lovers and for those who want to explore a glacier for real. The guide assesses your personal ability, so it is great for beginners and for those who have ventured on glaciers before. The glacier changes rapidly, meaning no tour is the same and you should expect to see something unique. During the different times of the year, the glacier looks and behaves in different ways. Colors, streams, crevasses, and moulins change constantly and we witness these changes first hand. The ever changing terrain allow us to take you to a unique place to create a unique experience. Although the tour is not physically very demanding and your guide will adapt to your needs, keep in mind that since the tour involves hiking, you need to be reasonably fit.

WHERE TO FIND US?

​

Pick up location is in Brunnhóll hotel, 30km west of Höfn. From there we take our clients in a modified Land Rover Defender for a 30 minutes ride to the glacier.

 

 

DIFFICULTY
Easy to hard difficulty - Your guide will adapt to your abilities. Typically the tour will include at least 2-3 hours of walking.
